May 1: Leviticus 22-25

Leviticus 22-25

“Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard … but in the seventh year the land shall have a Sabbath rest (25:3-4).  The idea of a weekly Sabbath seems natural now; we accept that humans need regular times of rest.  But most cultures did not mandate a regular day of rest for anyone, much less servants and slaves.  And letting fields and orchards rest for a year would have seemed quite risky.

God gave His people built-in opportunities to trust Him.  Resting, worshipping, and letting go of our work remind us that we belong to Him.
