May 10: I Corinthians 10:1-13

I Corinthians 10:1-13

“No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man …” (v13).  We sometimes think that, as modern people, the world is more dangerous, more evil, more tempting or scary or deceptive than it used to be.  Not so, said Paul.  Those living under the Roman Empire faced the same basic temptations as the Israelites in the desert, 1500 years earlier, and we face the same today, 2000 years later.

Greed, selfishness, laziness, grumbling, sexual immorality – nothing has changed.  And God is still faithful “to provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it” (v13).
