May 12: I Corinthians 8

I Corinthians 8

"Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies" (v1). The Corinthians were wondering if they could eat meat sacrificed to idols. Paul's answer was that idols were powerless, empty objects, and therefore such meat was harmless. But for some believers, idols were still either an attraction or a threat (v7), and for them, eating such meat was dangerous. Those who had "liberty" in this area should not offend or confuse those who were still struggling. This arrogance was a "sin against Christ" (v12).

Love puts the spiritual well-being of our brothers and sisters before our own freedom.
