May 12: Mark 10

Mark 10

“Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!” (v24).  The rich young ruler was a good man, yet he “went away grieved,” because Jesus asked him to give away his wealth.  Jesus had seen the idol of his heart, the barrier between him and God.  Jesus was getting ready to suffer and die in order to defeat sin (v33), and He knew there could be no compromise.  We can’t serve two masters.

Impossible as it seems, we can enter God’s kingdom (v27).  We find there a Master who is “gentle and humble in heart” and offers rest to our souls (Matt 11:29).
