May 17: I Corinthians 12

I Corinthians 12

“But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired” (v18).  Sometimes our human communities don’t look “just as God desired.”  We honor and idolize those whose gifts are leadership-oriented or charismatic.  Paul taught instead that all believers have equal potential to be used by the Spirit: “there are a varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit” (v4), and these gifts are for “the common good” (v7).

Each member of the Body (each follower of Jesus), is important, significant, and necessary for the proper, healthy functioning of the church as a whole.
