Song of Solomon 1-2
“Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among the young men” (2:3). One of the themes of this wedding-poem is the celebration of a lover’s perspective. Both the bride and the groom claim that their beloved is more beautiful than anyone: “most beautiful among women” (1:8). Part of the desire to get married is the deeply human desire to be chosen, selected and considered “the favorite” of someone else.
Marriage is a reflection of the redeeming love of God. Ephesians tells us that God “chose us in Christ” before the foundation of the world, and we belong to Him.
