May 2: I Corinthians 7

I Corinthians 7

“Only, as the Lord has assigned to each one, as God has called each, in this manner let him walk” (v17).  While Paul himself preferred being single (v8), he made it clear that marriage is holy, and no one who marries is sinning (v28).  Being married would have conflicted with Paul’s “undistracted devotion to the Lord” (v35), but he acknowledged that “each man has his own gift from God, one in this manner, and another in that” (v7).

Whether and when to marry are enormous life questions.  The Bible reassures us that, single or married, we can follow God’s calling and be pleasing to Him.
