May 20: Song of Solomon 3-4

Song of Solomon 3-4

“How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride!  How much better is your love than wine …” (v10).  With the extravagant language of romance, the bride and groom compare each other to the best of the world around them.  They use beautiful things in the natural world to describe their beloved: doves and pomegranates, fruits and spices, “a garden spring, a well of fresh water” (v15).  The world is full of good gifts, but love surpasses them all.

God made us for companionship and community.  Nothing else, not work, money, or adventure, can take the place of loving and being loved.
