May 24: Mark 12-13

Mark 12-13

“Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!” (13:1).  During Jesus’ time, the Temple in Jerusalem was intact and beautiful, and it looked permanent.  Jesus prophesied that it would soon be destroyed (which happened in 70AD), and He warned about the chaotic end, when “nation will arise against nation,” and believers will be persecuted.  When we live in comfort, these words seem distant.  But in some places, war and persecution are a present reality.

Jesus warned us to “take heed, keep on the alert” (v33-37).  No matter what our eyes see, our hearts must remain fixed on His truth and love.
