I Corinthians 11
“But let a man examine himself …” (v28). The Corinthian church had gotten off-track, though Paul commended them for holding “firmly to the traditions” (v2). They met together for prayer and for the Lord’s supper, but these gatherings had become less than sacred. Paul recommended that women keep their head covered while praying or prophesying, because in his culture this symbolized order and harmony between the sexes. He rebuked the Corinthians for ignoring the original intent of the Lord’s Supper.
Rituals alone cannot bring us closer to God or each other. Our hearts must be engaged in all that we do.
