May 26: I Corinthians 12

I Corinthians 12

“And the eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I have no need of you’” (v21). The biblical idea that we each have unique gifts resembles the popular cultural values of multiculturalism and individualism. We are taught even in the secular world to celebrate our differences. However, the Bible says that our differences are part of a whole (v12); we need each other. Our individual gifts of teaching, healing, helps, administration, etc. (v8-10, 28-30) are meant to be used cooperatively.

Our spiritual life is incomplete as individuals. We can only be the Body of Christ when we work together “for the common good” (v7).
