May 27: Isaiah 4-6

Isaiah 4-6

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light … and bitter for sweet … Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes!” (5:20-21). In Isaiah’s day, the rich and powerful in Israel were trampling on the rights of everyone else.  The wealthy gobbled up houses and land (5:8), judges took bribes and looked the other way (v23), and clever arguments made it all acceptable.

No matter what new political or cultural label we give it, greed is still greed.  Even in a world that celebrates selfishness, God wants us to live radically for Him.
