Numbers 20-23
“It is not a place of grains or figs or vines or pomegranates, nor is there water to drink” (20:5). The Israelites had forgotten that they were on a journey, and the desert wasn’t their destination. They “became impatient” (21:4) and lost courage, faith, and hope. The desert didn’t have wonderful fruit trees, but their destination – Canaan – certainly did! Even Moses lost sight of the big picture (honoring God) and reacted to their whining in self-focused anger (20:12).
This earthly journey isn’t our destination. We see all of life from a different perspective when we remember the joy waiting for us.
