May 28: Esther 3-4

Esther 3-4

“And thus I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish” (4:16). The people of God are called to be law-abiding (Rom 13), but sometimes the law of man conflicts with our faith. Mordecai did not bow down before Haman, earning his wrath; as a Jew, Mordecai bowed only to God. Esther was not supposed to visit the king without invitation. She accepted the risk – death – hoping to save her people.

With mature and courageous faith, God’s people take risks – preceded, like Esther, by fasting and prayer.
