Numbers 24-26
“I have sinned, for I did not know that you were standing in the way against me” (22:34). Balaam had determined to not say anything “contrary to the command of the Lord,” but apparently God saw something wayward in his heart. He was on his way to visit Balak the king of Moab, who had promised riches in exchange for cursing Israel. Balaam’s donkey and God’s angel worked together to open Balaam’s eyes: God was more real than he imagined, and he could only obey.
God loves us and mercifully brings our sins to our attention. As we respond in faith, His Spirit transforms our characters.
