May 29: Esther 5

Esther 5

“Then Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, and the number of his sons, and every instance where the king had magnified him, and how he had promoted him …” (v11). Haman serves as a direct contrast to Mordecai and Esther. Esther “found favor” through humility and obedience, honoring her uncle even when she was queen. Mordecai had saved the king’s life but had never pursued a reward or recognition. Meanwhile, Haman was consumed with his own reputation.

“When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom” (Prov 11:2).
