May 3: I Corinthians 8

I Corinthians 8

“Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again” (v13).  Because “there is no such thing as an idol in the world” (v4), eating meat that had been sacrificed to an “idol” wasn’t dangerous (v8).  However, new believers “being accustomed to the idol until now” (v7) might be confused by this.  Seeing a Christian “dining in an idol’s temple” might shake the loyalties of that young believer and become “a stumbling block” to their new faith (v10-11).

The well-being of our brothers and sisters “for whom Christ died” is far more important than our right to do whatever we want.
