May 5: Ecclesiastes 1-2

Ecclesiastes1-2

“That which has been done is that which will be done.  So, there is nothing new under the sun” (1:9).  “The preacher” (traditionally identified as Solomon, v12) said that life on earth is like a great spinning wheel.  The sun rises and sets, generations come and go, and all is “vanity,” - worthless, pointless activity.  This is the perspective of many religions which teach people to simply embrace “what is,” accepting the present, broken reality without dreaming of a better world.

However, Jesus entered history to free us from the bondage of a pointless, dead-end life.   In Him all things are made new (Rev 21:5).
