May 6: Ecclesiastes 3-4

Ecclesiastes 3-4

“I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in one’s lifetime …” (3:12-13).  Though the satisfaction of work (doing good) is “the gift of God”, v13, the Preacher recognized that work is not enough.  In a broken world, we may not enjoy the profit of our labor (2:18), and the rich may steal from the poor (4:1).  Even when we enjoy productive work, we desire more, because God “has also set eternity in their heart” (3:11).

Without God, even the best life has to offer eventually becomes twisted.  Connected to Him, our imperfect lives become full of purpose and meaning.
