November 1: Psalm 130

Psalm 130

“I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, and in His word do I hope” (v3). The psalmist knew what it was like to feel weighed down by sin (v3), despair, anxiety, and fear. He clung to the knowledge that “there is forgiveness with Thee” (v4), and that in God’s presence, the burden of guilt (or the burden of fear) could be released. In the dark hours of night, alone with his thoughts, the psalmist waited for the comfort of the Lord (v6).

Hope in the Lord, the psalmist said, because “with the Lord there is lovingkindness and … abundant redemption” (v7).
