James 1-3

“But prove yourselves to be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves” (1:22).  The Biblical view of personhood teaches that we are body-souls.  We think, feel, and act as one person (versus philosophies which divide the material and non-material worlds).  Fig trees produce figs (3:12), and our words and actions reveal the deep beliefs of our hearts, more than religious labels.  If our relationship with God is rooted in His mercy, we will demonstrate mercy toward others (2:10-13).

As we come to know and trust Jesus more, we will grow in “mercy and good fruits” (3:17).
