I Kings 17-18

“If the Lord is God, follow Him, but if Baal is God, follow him” (18:21).  Elijah knew that people wanted to follow a God who answered prayer.  Israel had been led by King Ahab to believe that idols were real gods, equivalent to or better than the God of Abraham.  Elijah called on God to bring down fire from heaven, demonstrating clearly that He was alive.  When the priests called on their idol, “No one answered, and no one paid attention” (v29).

Every false source of comfort, power, and security will fail us.  God revealed in Jesus loves us, hears us, and comes to save us.
