II Peter 2-3
“For speaking out arrogant words of vanity they entice by fleshly desires, by sensuality … promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption” (2:18-19). Our own age is full of false prophets who offer us freedom, in the form of self-help books, “perfect your body” programs, and the mind-numbing entertainment of TV, internet, and movies. Peter says that they are “springs without water,” without the power to quench our thirsty souls.
Knowing the truth found in the Scriptures and having a living relationship with Christ, we can avoid the world’s lies and instead “grow in grace” (3:17-18).
