November 16: 1 John 1

I John 1

“And this is the message … that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all” (1:5). Some of the most attractive, deceptive kinds of spirituality are those which soften the distinction between light and darkness. We want to feel good about doing good, but we don’t want to feel bad when we sin. Therefore we justify ourselves as we dabble in darkness, entertaining ourselves with “harmless” practices, images, or teachings that stray from the blinding light of God’s goodness.

Only by confessing sin (not by ignoring it) can we experience His forgiveness and cleansing (v9).
