November 18: I Kings 19

I Kings 19

“Arise, eat, for the journey is too great for you” (v7).  Elijah, great man of God, was exhausted and scared.  He has seen God’s fire burn up a sacrifice and defeat Baal’s prophets, and God had sent rain after a drought (18:45).  But suddenly all the drama was too much, and Elijah escaped to the wilderness (19:3).  There, God’s angel fed him until he was strong enough to reach Horeb.  At Horeb, God revealed Himself to Elijah, in “a sound of gentle blowing.”

God knows we are flesh and blood.  He met Elijah’s need for rest, food, and comfort before sending him back into battle.
