I Peter 1
“For you have been born again, not of seed which is perishable but imperishable” (1:23). Peter told the believers “residing as aliens” in the Roman Empire (v1) that their faith and hope were secure in Jesus Christ. They had been redeemed “with precious blood” (v19), and the inheritance they looked forward to was “imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away” (v4). This was powerful comfort to people who were suffering, rejected, persecuted, and unsure of the future.
The “seed” of our new birth is just the beginning. Peter reminds us that the full flowering of our salvation is yet to come: “reserved in heaven for you” (1:4).
