November 2: John 20

John 20

“Unless I shall see in His hands the imprint of the nails … I will not believe” (v25).  Thomas’ skepticism provided us with important details about Jesus’ resurrection.  The disciples and the women were not claiming simply to have seen Jesus’ spirit, or his ghost, because then Thomas would not have insisted on touching him.  Thomas knew they were claiming that Jesus Himself was alive, and that meant the world had turned upside down.

Because Jesus arose, death isn’t the end.  We look forward to real life in His redeemed creation, when what is “mortal is swallowed up by life” (2 Cor 5:4).
