November 20: Psalm 135

Psalm 135

“Praise Him, O servants of the Lord, you who stand in the house of the Lord” (135:1-2).  The “servants of the Lord”, also in Psalm 134, were the Levites who served in the Temple.  The Levite tribe served as priests, Temple doorkeepers, singers and musicians.  This psalm urges them, along with all Israel, to fulfill their purpose: to praise God because “our Lord is above all gods” (v5).  In praise, Israel remembered God’s miracles and goodness (135:12), and they joined the creation worship.

In Christ, we are all priests and Levites (I Peter 2:9).  We can praise God anytime and anywhere, “for it is lovely” (Ps 135:3).
