Acts 6
“Now at this time while the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint arose … their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food” (v1). This fast-growing church could easily have split apart into Hellenist and Hebrew factions, pulled down by hurt feelings, blame, and prejudice. “The 12” might have spent all their time solving squabbles (v2). Instead, these leaders recognized the problem (they did have a lot of people to care for), and appointed wise, Spirit-filled men to take over the task.
Sharing work among many Spirit-filled, capable leaders allowed the church to continue to thrive as a bright light in dark world.
