November 24: II Kings 1-3

II Kings 1-3

“Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?” (v3).  Elijah’s accusation was true: Ahaziah (son of wicked King Ahab) was calling on an idol instead of Israel’s God (v2).  Like his father, he was leading Israel further away from the God of Abraham, Creator of heaven and earth.  Elijah’s call as a prophet was to make the reality of the Creator known, which he did through prophecies (v6), fiery justice (v10), and other miracles.

Filled with God’s Spirit, Elijah’s passionate words and deeds proclaimed one message: “there is a God in Israel.”
