II Peter 1-3
“His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness …” (1:3). Peter warned believers not to turn back to their former lives of sensuality, greed, and selfishness (ch 2). This is slavery that disguises itself as freedom (2:19), and it is the opposite of real freedom found in Jesus Christ. Peter said that we don’t need to live this way; we have been given everything we need for “life and godliness.”
We can live in fellowship with God (1:4) because His precious and magnificent promises have been fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who purifies us. This is our hope, “a lamp shining in dark place” (1:9).
