November 27: II Samuel 7-8

II Samuel 7-8

"Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that Thou hast brought me this far?" (7:18). Perhaps more than any other biblical person, King David expressed great humility before God. After he was established in Jerusalem, David wanted to build God a "real" house, too. But instead, God said, "the Lord will make a house for you" (v11). God promised to establish David's kingdom forever.

David recognized that this is God's heart: the One who needs nothing, who owns everything, chooses to reach out and bless us. We can only be grateful.
