November 29: Amos 5-9

Amos 5-9

“They will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them; they will also plant vineyards … and make gardens and eat their fruit” (9:14-15).  Amos’ vision paints an attractive picture: people living peacefully in their own homes, enjoying the product of their work.  God judged Israel because they were hoarders; they wanted this joy for their own group (whether their family, class, or nation) but not for others.  They lived contrary to God’s desire to show mercy and goodness to all: poor and rich, Jew and Gentile.

When we work for the peace and prosperity of others, and not just ourselves, we reflect the heart of the Savior.
