November 30: Psalm 139

Psalm 139

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts …” (v23). The psalmist had just declared that God is “intimately acquainted” with all our ways (v3). He scrutinizes our choices; He knew us even in our mother’s womb (v13). Nothing is hidden from God, and there is no where we can go to escape either His judgment or His care (v7-12).

Remarkably, the psalmist wanted more: “Search me, O God.” He wanted to participate in the relationship, and he voluntarily invited God into the deepest place of his heart.
