November 5: I Kings 10-11

I Kings 10-11

“Now the LORD was angry with Solomon because his heart was turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel” (11:9).  God had forbidden the Israelites from marrying idol-worshippers (v2), but Solomon “loved many foreign women” who “turned his heart away” (v1-3).  God warned him personally at least twice (v9-10), but Solomon’s affections had begun to change.  In the end, he built altars to the demonic gods whose worship included immorality, prostitution, and child sacrifice (v7).

We are influenced by our closest relationships and how we spend our time.  Despite wisdom and blessings, Solomon walked away from God due to the affections of his heart.
