James 4-5

“What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you?” (4:1). The source of our troubles is that we have unsatisfied, and often ungodly, desires (v2-3). The world seems to offer experiences that will make us happy, so we make sinful choices and become “enemies of God” (v4). But God offers grace (v6). If we resist the devil and draw near to God, He draws near to us, cleanses us, and satisfies our hearts with “every perfect gift” (1:17).

Only God can satisfy our deepest desires. Seeking pleasure outside Him leads to destruction, but life in Him produces all kinds of blessings.
