Proverbs 15
“He who neglects discipline despises himself” (v32). While our behavior powerfully affects others (v1, 18), the proverbs emphasize the way our choices first affect our own bodies and spirits. “A joyful heart makes a cheerful face … a cheerful heart has a continual feast” (v13-15). When we spend time with God, seeking His heart and learning His ways, we grow in wisdom and therefore make better choices (v31). But the one who pursues his own goals, apart from God and ignoring His boundaries, “troubles his own house” (v27).
If we believe God made us, then following His ways is the only path to wholeness and peace.
