Psalm 54
“Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the sustainer of my soul” (v4). When we’ve been unjustly attacked, it’s normal to want “vindication” (v1). We have a deep desire for justice, and the psalmist’s words reflect this instinct: “Destroy them in Thy faithfulness” (v5). Letting God be the one to defeat evil, rather than seeking revenge ourselves, acknowledges that we don’t always know the truth. We can trust God, our “helper”, to divide good from evil and balance justice with mercy.
Our infinitely wise God can deliver us from trouble (v7). He is on our side, working for our good, whatever the conflict.
