Psalm 54

"Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the sustainer of my soul" (v4).  The shortness of this prayer reflects the urgency of the psalmist's need: "Save me, O God ..." (v1).  Real danger surrounded him -  "violent men have sought my life" (v3).  It wasn't the time for long, meditative poetry or lyrical hymns of praise.  The psalmist needed help immediately, and he didn't hesitate to call on his Helper.

Sickness, disaster, grief - life can overwhelm us.  God is present, ready to offer His infinite resources and love.
