Psalm 124

“Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the trapper; the snare is broken and we have escaped” (v7).  In good times, we experience the world as the supportive background for our achievements.  But when a personal or national crisis hits, we are confronted by “the raging waters” (v5) of darkness.  Our eyes are opened to the traps of selfishness, deceit, immorality, and hard-heartedness.  We recognize that “had it not been the Lord who was on our side” (v1), we would have perished.

The good news is that “the snare is broken.”  God is on our side in Jesus Christ, and He is faithful.
