October 17: Proverbs 29

Proverbs 29

"A man who hardens his neck after much reproof will suddenly be broken beyond remedy” (v1).  The proverbs teach about the parts of life that are within our control.  While we don’t control our rulers (v2), we can control our own attitudes and words (v11).  We have the choice to make conflicts worse (v8), or quietly be peacemakers.  When we are mistaken or in danger, we can “harden our necks” (v1), or listen to those who try to warn us.

We can’t avoid life’s problems.  But we can lay down our pride and ask for help, and trust in God who gives “light to the eyes” (v13).
