Psalm 55
“I am restless in my complaint and am surely distracted” (v2). The psalmist was distressed because of the pressure of constant conflict (v3). A friend, someone with whom he had enjoyed “sweet fellowship” (v14), was now his enemy. He wanted to escape: “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest” (v6). But instead, he brought his pain to God: “Evening and morning and at noon, I will complain … and He will hear my voice” (v17).
God doesn’t reject our honest “complaint.” Instead, “He will redeem my soul in peace from the battle which is against me” (v18).
