October 18: Ezekiel 27-30

Ezekiel 27-30

“By your great wisdom in your trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart has become proud in your wealth …" (28:5).  Ezekiel prophesied against Tyre, prosperous center of commerce, and against the mighty empire of Egypt (ch 29-30).  Both places used natural resources (cedar, ivory, colorful linen, etc) and human intelligence to live well, creating beautiful cities.  They were carried away by pride, thinking that because they owned so much, they could make their own rules.

Our modern world measures success by wealth.  But no amount of financial security or achievements can make us self-sufficient; we will always be dependent on the mercy of our Creator.
