October 2: 1 Timothy 3-6

I Timothy 3-6

“An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable … gentle, uncontentious, free of the love of money” (3:2-3). A few qualifications for overseers and deacons are easily evaluated: husband of one wife, for example. But others can only be observed within the daily workings of community. Paul taught that the fruit of the spirit, the way we treat others, should be one of the main qualifications for leadership in the church.

More than income or intelligence or “leadership” skills, to lead like Christ means gentleness, faithfulness, and kindness.
