Hebrews 7-8
“For it is fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent … He offered up Himself” (7:27). Hebrews explains why Jesus is the perfect High Priest, though He came from the tribe of Judah, instead of from the priestly tribe of Levi. Jesus is a High Priest like Melchizedek (Psalm 110), a mysterious, holy, Old Testament priest “without genealogy” (7:3). Jesus had no official claims to authority; He is Messiah “according to the power of an indestructible life” (7:16).
Jesus holds His priesthood permanently (7:24). After cleansing us by His blood, He “always lives to make intercession” for us.
