John 16
“And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment” (v8). Jesus said that when he went away, the Father would send “the Spirit of truth” to continue His work on the earth. All the things Jesus had done in the flesh would now be the work of the Holy Spirit, in partnership with the Body (the church). Facing our own sin, recognizing Jesus’ righteousness, and understanding that the devil has been defeated are all works of the Spirit (v8-15).
By the Spirit, Jesus is carrying on His work in the world, and we have the privilege of participating with Him (17:18).
