October 22: II Samuel 18-19

II Samuel 18-19

“I am among those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel” (v19).  A “wise woman” stopped Joab from destroying her city, promising instead to deliver the head of Sheba, the enemy they were pursuing.  In the years of consolidating David’s throne, wise members of the community spoke up in important moments and contributed counsel and encouragement. For example, Hushai’s warning saved David one night (17:15), and Joab later reproved David for not praising his victorious troops (19:5).

No single person bears the burden of leading God’s people.  Even King David listened to wise counsel, knowing God speaks through all His children.
