Lamentations 1-5
“Our dancing has been turned into mourning; the crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned!” (5:16). Jeremiah’s vivid descriptions of the siege of Jerusalem tragically illustrate the consequences of sin. Apart from our Creator, we are destined to suffer, because there is no safety, hope, joy, or life without Him. However, even in the worst of times, Jeremiah remembered “His compassions never fail; they are new every morning. Great is Thy faithfulness” (3:23).
“According to His abundant lovingkindess,” God in Christ became human, suffering with us and for us, so that we can live through Him.
