October 27: John 16

John 16

"These things I have spoken to you, that you may be kept from stumbling" (v1). Jesus tried to prepare His friends for the tough road ahead of them. He knew that, like us, wrong expectations can create terrible disappointment. So, He warned them that they would be put out of the synagogues and rejected, and His death would frighten them. But in Christ, "you may have peace," (v33), despite the tribulation.

Jesus has overcome death and sent us the Helper (v7), not to make life perfect, but to help us walk righteously, close to Him, in a dark world (v13).
