October 28: Hebrews 10

Hebrews 10

“For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified” (v14). The author of Hebrews wants us to understand that, unlike repetitious animal sacrifices which reminded the Israelites of their sin (v3), Jesus’ sacrifice happened “once for all” (v10). We take communion regularly in order to rejoice in our salvation – not because we need cleansing over and over. Jesus’ perfect righteousness, offered for our sin, was powerful and effective forever.

Trusting in the love and holiness of our High Priest, we can “draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith” (v22).
